The Women's Institute was formed in 1915, originally set up in the UK to encourage women to become more involved with food production in rural areas during the First World War. It gained great support with its groundbreaking and progressive campaigns empowering women to initiate positive change within society. With almost 220,000 national members across 6,300 WI's, it is now the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK.
The WI has a rich history of campaigning for a wide range of social issues, including the current campaigns of tackling climate change, avoiding food waste, providing adequate facilities for carers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, alleviating loneliness, supporting the bees and addressing the shortage of midwives.
Thame WI is a wonderful community of diverse women that celebrates the heritage of the WI, with an exciting social calendar and engaging campaign schedule to partake in. With the combination of monthly meetings, a varied speaker programme, a plethora of trips to enjoy, charitable fundraising opportunities and specialist clubs to join; it is a fantastic way to become more involved in your local area.
We welcome new members of all ages.
